Job Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Finance/Operation and general supervision of the Coordinator of Finance, the Internal Controls Specialist purpose is to perform a variety of financial activities including technical accounting, processing, recording, updating and reconciling fiscal information, perform audit monitoring; providing instructions, recommendations and/or accounting support to other personnel; and analyzing expenditures against budget.
Knowledge:
Is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, reports, facilitate group discussions, solve practical problems and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instruction. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: accounting/bookkeeping principles, computer operation/skills office methods and procedures, research, assessment and evaluation methods, concepts of grammar and punctuation.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associates degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance. Strong technical skills with spreadsheet functions, accounting software and Office 365.
Skills/Effort:
Is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Is required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality meeting deadlines and schedules working with detailed information/data working with frequent interruptions adapting to changing work priorities.
Working Conditions:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 20% walking, and 0% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Responsibility:
Responsible for analysis of all district-wide budgets.
