Morongo Unified School District                                                                                               JOB DESCRIPTION
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT COUNSELOR
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Provide mental health services for individuals and families including counseling, consultation, case management, and provide educational consultation services to other staff.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Be informed of and implement current federal and state laws, education code, and Morongo Unified School District policies and procedures.
  2. Collaborate with public and private agencies to offer programs that foster pro-social skills and prevent violent behavior; provide services to strengthen families as well as students.
  3. Serve as consultant to special and regular education teachers in the implementation of the student's IEP:
    1. Plan, coordinate and/or develop educational interventions, behavior management, and counseling/mental health programs.
    2. Develop, coordinate, and provide in-ser-vice training to staff and parents.
  4. Participate in a variety of meetings, including Multi-Tiered Systems and Supports (MTSS) and Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
  5. Provide individual and group counseling services for students, staff, and parents as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  6. Collect data and prepare treatment history and medical billing records.
  7. Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISOR:
School Site Administration
ASSIGNMENTIWORK YEAR:
184 days inclusive of the comprehensive school year and extended school year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Possession of valid California license as a Clinical Social Worker or a Marriage, Family Therapist as granted by the State Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
And/Or
  1. Possession of a valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing service as School Counselor, Social Worker, or School Psychologist.
  2. Experience working with K-12 students providing individual and group counseling.
